First Vacation

Melissa and I took a few days off work to travel to Virginia to visit her family and see some amazing historical things.

On our way to Virginia!
Toby was a little more excited than Rusty.
Our handsome boys.
We made it to Virginia!

Nana and Grandpa had a visitor. A beautiful peacock who was trying desperately to get the attention of a lady peacock. Maybe try a dad joke? It worked for Melissa.

We met up with Melissa’s Aunt Tina and Uncle Larry-Keith at their lake house. They took us out on the boat and treated us to a delicious lunch (I ate ALL the shrimps) and ice cream.

Melissa surprised me by taking me to Ferry Farm, George Washington’s boyhood home. They made a replica of the home on the existing foundation. It was AMAZING.

The dark stones at the very bottom are the original foundation stones.
The view of the house from the Rappahannock River.

My favourite President. Toby is named after him.

We visited historic downtown Fredericksburg. I AM IN LOVE.

Outside the oldest soda fountain!
I got an Egg Cream and Melissa got a cherry soda.
This door! So beautiful.
The Rising Sun Tavern. Built in 1760 by George Washington’s brother. It became a Tavern in 1792.
I wanted to buy this abandoned house and restore it to it’s original glory.
The kitchen at Mary Washington’s home (it was in a separate building behind the house).

The Battle of Fredericksburg historical battlefield.

You can see all the bullet holes in the walls.
So many lives destroyed.

Armstrong Air & Space Museum

Melissa’s friend, Joanne, came and stayed with us for the weekend. It was amazing getting to know her and to hear stories about younger Melissa.

Joanne is an amazing soul

We made it!
Jessi, Joanne, and Melissa outside the museum, ready to go nerd out on space history and get out of the cold rain.
The Eagle hovering around the moon looking for the landing site.
Melissa got a selfie with Astro.
The Gemini 8
Jessi and Melissa got a selfie with Neil Armstrong.

We finished the day by watching Apollo 13. Toby really enjoyed it as well.
