Painting – An Awfully Big Adventure

Office Remodel Stage 1: Complete

This tiny little room at the back of our house has served as a mini storage room during my moving in process. We have always planned on it being an office but with wedding planning, the wedding, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and work in between all of that, it sort of got pushed to the back burner.

However, last week, as I was finishing up my Christmas break, I decided to start the process. I removed as many boxes as I could to our back sunroom in order to make just enough room to maneuver around. There were at least 8 boxes of various sizes already removed from the room when I snapped this photo. I taped and started painting around the trim and Melissa finished it (because, ADHD and distractions and “I was waiting for the trim to dry”…Melissa operates much differently than me in this area…those Neurotypicals…).

We bought everything we needed from the ReStore in town. If you’ve never been to a Habitat for Humanity ReStore…I suggest you check them out. We bought paint (a gallon for $13!), tape, rollers, and brushes at super cheap prices. The total cost to repaint this room AND our bedroom (soon) was around $25!

Mid-trim painting pic. I forgot to take a picture of the room BEFORE I had it all prepped. Imagine around 8-10 more boxes of various sizes stacked inside. Yea…a lot of organising happened after painting was done.

Here is the “in-between” photo. The colour is a medium grey with a hint of brown. I call it “elephant skin”. We are going for neutral colours since we are planning on selling after we do a few more improvements.

We have all the things we want inside the room and the big stuff has been arranged where we want it but we still need to hang photos and diplomas and certificates (and organise better). And I also want to make curtains but, I need a sewing machine (anyone wanna sell me one for cheap?) because ALL OF THE WINDOWS IN THE HOUSE ARE WEIRD SIZES AND NO MODERN CURTAIN IS THAT SIZE.

Yes…that is a stack of LEGO boxes…those are the sets we HAVEN’T done yet (date nights). The amount of LEGO sets we have done…well…we’ve lost count.

Once the room is completely done I will snap a few more pics to show you the entire space. It’s tiny but it’s perfect for our (mostly my) office.

Painting, The Reservoir, and Snuggles.

On Friday night, Melissa and I went to a group paint night at the local art studio. The paint night was part of a fundraiser for Suicide Prevention and Awareness. The theme was “Gab’s Bee”. Gabby was the daughter of one of my closest friend and who had also become a friend/confidante of mine. Gabby passed away on 7/31/18 at the age of 20. She was an amazing soul. The bee painting was modeled after a tattoo Gab had. The tattoo symbolised overcoming fear. One of Gab’s biggest fears was bees and so she got a bee on her forearm to remind her to always face your fears. She was amazing.

On Saturday night we went on a walk to the reservoir again. It was chilly but beautiful. What is it about water that makes everything feel so calm and peaceful?

Rusty’s favourite place to be in the whole wide world is snuggled between his two mum’s. Toby had already gone to bed (in his crate) so Mumsy (Melissa) and Mama (Jessi) gave him some one on one attention. He’s such a sweet boy.
